Assigned Due Returned Problems Assigned
(Unless otherwise noted, assignments are in
Saadat's text, except if prefixed by "P," then in
Dorf & Svoboda's 5th or 6th edition. )
12

12/05 12/12

12/13   Read Chapter 6
Do the computer project (described on the main
  courses@dordt page for this course).
11

12/03 12/05

12/10#   Read 4.7, 4.8
  Do 4.5, 4.6

Note errata on pages 115 and 116.
10

11/16 11/30

12/03#   Read 4.1 through 4.6
  Do 4.1, 4.2
9

11/09 11/16

11/21#   Review Ch 3
  Do 3.7, 3.8, 3.12
(Also study for test on Wednesday, 11/14)
8

11/02 11/07

11/13#   Read 3.4 through 3.12
Do 3.4 and add part (d):
        (d) By inspection of the graph from part (c),
estimate the maximum power angle allowed
if the relationship between the power
generated and the power angle is to act
approximately linearly. Also, what is the
        pull-out angle?

Hint for part (a): Consider what cos(delta + theta)
represents in Figure 3.8. Then use the Trig. ID
        cos(delta + theta) = cos(delta)cos(theta) – sin(delta)sin(theta).
        Also note text Equation 3.30.

  Also do 3.6

Note: After class on Monday, 11/05, Prof.
De Boer moved 3.7 and 3.8 to the next problem
set because we have not covered those topics in
  class yet.
7

10/22 10/31

11/02#   Read 3.1, 3.2, 3.3
  Do 3.1, 3.2, 3.3
6

10/12 10/22

10/26#   Read 3.13, 3.1, 3.2
  Do 3.13, 3.16.
Note that an "impedance diagram" is a
  conventional schematic of a Y-equivalent
per-phase model of the system. The quantiites
labeled may be in conventional units or in
per-unit measures, but usually are not mixed.

As per our discussion in class on Wednesday,
10/17, the due date for this assignment was
  changed from 10/17 to 10/22.
5

9/28 10/03

  Do in Dorf & Svoboda P12.4-3, P12.5-1, P12.6-2,
  P12.7-2, P12.8-6, P12.9-1 (Hint: 1 HP = 745.7 W),
  P12.9-5, DP12-3

  Note errata on
  P12.8-6, and P12.9-1, and DP12-3.

  P11.6-9 in the 5th ed, P11.7-4, P11.8-2, P11.10-2

(Note: The problem that is numbered P11.6-6 in
the 6th edition is numbered P11.6-9 in the 5th
edition. All the other problems are numbered
  the same in both editions.)
2

9/05 9/12

9/14#   Review in Dorf & Svoboda Ch 10,
  Read in Dorf & Svoboda Ch 11, Secs. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

8/29 9/5

9/07#   Read Chapter 1
  Do 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
On 8/31 the due date was changed from 9/3
to 9/5 due to computer problems on campus.
On 4/5 the reading assignment explicitly shown.

Note 1) If a "#" follows the "returned" date, then the solution key is posted on the cork board across the hall from room S233.

Note 2) Problems sets shown above with no "assigned" date are tentative. More problems might be added, expected due dates might change, but problems shown will eventually be assigned.

Note 3) If you are having difficulty reading the latest version of this page it may have to do with your browser's cached memory. Read this note on cached pages to solve the problem.
